Why I Have The Best Job In The World

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

Would you agree that a life truly dedicated to empowering others is a life well lived? That is why I find so much joy and fulfillment in being a braider. In fact, I hold braiders to the same admiration as educators and motivational speakers. Like these, socially more revered professionals, the true purpose of a braider (a beautician in general) is helping others actualize their talent and dreams. They achieve this by helping their clients: walk in with pride to a job interview, embrace a date and future spouse with a broad welcoming smile, and stand up tall at a graduation ceremony. Hence, cosmetology is for me truly one of the most fulfilling careers in the world.

Beauty does change lives. For starts, it’s my livelihood. I have been braiding hairs professionally since the young age of 15. Although I have a university degree, cosmetology is the only job I am truly comfortable practicing. But my statement is not just egotistic. I follow a YouTube magnate named Shalom Nchom. She is a burn survivor whose makeup tutorials are now viral sensations. But more important than the celebrity status she has acquired, is her inspiring personal story. Severely burned and disfigured from an accident, she used makeup artistry to show a new face and to confront the world with greater confidence and self-esteem. This is where the power of cosmetology lies. Cosmetologists help others discover or rediscover a renewed energy, self-esteem, and self-confidence; and even more.

Yes more, because we give our clients a respite and an escape from life often meanness and accidents. As a hair braider with over 10-years of experience, I deeply understand this. Clients expect you to lift them up, both inward and outward, from the low point they often sit in your chair. Sometimes, that means being a confident and a comforter in addition to being a beautician. Joan Crawford said once: “The most important thing a woman can have next to talent is her hairdresser”. As a beauty salon client and professional, I identify with her quote.

Visit a beauty salon today! I am certain you won't regret it.
